China in the World: Historical perspectives on China’s rise

Anton Harder will look at various aspects of the People's Republic of China's (PRC's) role and influence in the world and offer some historical context for these things. Examples of this include territorial disputes and regional relations, great power relations, the military, the power of the state and central government, education/innovation, economics and finance, and the environment.
Anton Harder has just completed a PhD at the International History Department of the London School of Economics (LSE) with a thesis titled, ‘Defining Asia: Sino-Indian Relations 1949-1962’. He currently teaches a course at the LSE on the history of the Third World in the Twentieth Century. Prior to his return to academia Anton lived, worked and studied in China for about 10 years.
